If you’re a newcomer to online learning, you probably have some questions about how it works. In these videos, GLCC President Dr. Frank Weller answers common questions about online learning, online classes and online programs.
How Do Online Classes Work?
Your online classes are held on a secure online platform that you access through our website. What that means for you is that you’ll interact with your classes entirely through your computer. That means you can:
- Communicate with your instructor and fellow students
- Upload your assignments
- Engage in conversation about your readings and homework
- Find all of your course materials
….all online from any location with a good wifi connection.
How Long Are Online Classes?
Online classes at GLCC run for seven weeks. That means a new semester starts every eight weeks, so you get the flexibility you need to work around your schedule. This works if you’re working full time, trying to raise a family, a high schooler earning college credit, or whatever your situation is. It makes it easy to jump in when you’d like and take a short break if you need to.
Are Online Classes Accredited?
GLCC online course are fully accredited by the Higher Learning Commission. That’s the same organization that accredits most Midwest schools of higher learning. That means you can work towards transferring your GLCC credits to schools like MSU, U of M, Hope, Calvin, and many others.
How Do You Communicate with Professors for Online Classes?
All your communications in online courses are done online. Your instructors are available for one-on-one communication through email. Since GLCC online classes are smaller than most traditional college courses, you’re sure to get their full attention and a quick response.
When is Homework Due for Online Classes?
Most online classes at GLCC are based on a weekly cycle from Tuesday to Monday midnight. That means that, for most classes, your homework that week is due Monday by midnight. Classes also have an online forum for the teacher to talk to students throughout the week. You might be required to participate in that as well. Always check with your instructor to see what they’d prefer and what their requirements are.
Is Financial Aid Available for Online Classes?
Absolutely. Just like with Traditional in-seat courses, financial aid for GLCC online courses requires filling out a FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) form. Contact our financial aid office and talk to our financial aid director Ryan Apple for specific help for your situation.
Are Scholarships Available for Online Classes?
Yes. There are several scholarships available specifically for:
- Pastors
- Missionaries
- Church workers
…and the children of those listed above. There is also corporate reimbursement available in some situations. Contact us to see if there are any that fit your situation. Note that GLCC online courses are less expensive than traditional, in-person schools, usually coming to less than $12,000 a year.
