Great Lakes Christian College (GLCC) and Grace Bible College (GBC) celebrated their 100th boys’ basketball game, and their partnership, by playing at the Palace of Auburn Hills on Wednesday, February 10, 2016. At the start of the game senior guard Nathan Shelton made an “NBA threepointer” to put the Lakes up to a 52 lead early in the game. Freshman Austin Willey stepped in to help out the Lakes, who fought hard despite the shortage of players, by adding 3 assists. The Lakes struggled early on against the tough zone defense of the Tigers and were forced to take some deep outside shots. Freshman forward Anthony Kaminski made two, threepointers in the first half of the game closing the gap to 25-43 by the end of the first half.
Hoping to make a comeback, the Lakes came out tough to start the second half, but only having 7 players able to play began to take its toll. Kaminski led the team with 28 points, 12 rebounds, and 4 assists and Shelton contributed major threes up through the end of the game with a solid 12 points. Freshman forward Joseph Parks also was a key player on defense with 10 rebounds and 2 blocks against the Tigers, by working hard down low in the post. Freshman guard Ezra Beckwith contributed with 5 major assists and 9 points and senior Danny Buegar played quick defense with 3 steals and 4 critical points in the game. Although the Tigers stayed in a zone defense for most of the game, the Lakes finished with seven made shots from beyond the arc. To conclude the game the score was 55-100, but even until the very end, despite only having 7 players, the Lakes competed with determination, teamwork, and heart.
