Christian Principles to Guide a Successful Business

Written by Great Lakes Christian College | Sep 28, 2021 2:03:21 PM

As a Christian you can (and should) apply all aspects of your faith to everything you do, including running a business. Praying for guidance and success is a great place to start. There are also amazing examples in the Bible of business principles.

Deuteronomy 8:18 NIV But remember the LORD your God, for it is he who gives you the ability to produce wealth, and so confirms his covenant, which he swore to your ancestors, as it is today. All of our skills and special talents that we use in our businesses are all given to us by God.

There are many books and courses available on how to run a successful business but the very best guide is the Bible.

You find answers to many common businesses questions like:

  • how to be a Christian leader
  • how to treat employees
  • how to serve customers
  • whether or not to cut corners
  • resisting the temptation of an attractive but questionable deal

Can you imagine how much more successful you will be as a business owner if you include Christian principles and teachings in your learning?

Running a business involves stress, even on the good days!

We know as Christians that we are led to lean on the Lord and trust him in all things. We also know this is easier said than done, but does become easier with practice. You are never alone in your business, God is always with you.

Philippians 4:6 (NIV) Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.”

The following areas are addressed in the Bible and our online classes:

  1. The principle of due diligence. Proper discernment and research in all business matters.
  2. Treat your employees fairly. The age-old principle, "treat others as you would like to be treated."

  3.  Customer Service.  As a Christian it is not enough to have good customer service, you should always strive for the highest level of service which includes being honest at all times.

  4. God is watching. Do all things as if God is watching, because he is. Your ethical standards should be based on having to answer to the Father.
  5. Build a reputation on integrity and honesty. The easiest path is not always the best path, and it is extremely important to always be honest. Not only is your business reputation at stake, but the reputations of all your brothers and sisters in Christ.

  6.  Be humble. It is important to develop the skills to be able to accept and encourage criticism.

  7. Give back.  Tithing is an important part of the Christian life, but going even further and giving back to your community will go a long way to build your business, your reputation, create loyal customers, and create an environment you want to live in.
