by Jaelynn Vert, Great Lakes Christian College Student
One of Greg’s many talents is storytelling. If you know him at all you’ve probably heard stories from his years as a student at Great Lakes or from other chapters of his life.
Personally, my favorite story is about how he first decided to attend Great Lakes Christian College. If he didn’t go through a whirlwind of events involving Rock Lake Christian Assembly and some unexpected time on crutches he may not have applied to the school that summer. I won’t spoil the story for you here, though. You’ll have to come to Great Lakes and hear it for yourself.
When I called him for an interview, I wanted to ask about everything he does for the college now. After years of ministry and other jobs (including working as a cook, tennis coach, and fun fact: teaching a couple classes at Great Lakes) Greg was given the opportunity by President Larry Carter to come back and work as the Vice President of Enrollment Management.
Under this title, Greg is also the Director of Admissions, and Oversight of Athletics, Student Life, Student Housing, and Title IX. He enjoys the variety of his responsibilities as well as the job itself. Mainly, he helps high school students see everything this college has in store for them. He loves his job because he is passionate about investing in the lives of students. He looks forward to seeing what each student will do with what they have learned in and out of the classroom.
Greg refers to himself as “a jack of all trades and master of none” and jokes that the wearing of so many hats is what made him go bald. Certainly, his list of pastimes is longer than most I’ve seen. He enjoys playing tennis, cooking, gardening, raising farm animals, hunting, and astronomy (just to name a few.)
One thing I admire about him is that he turns his hobbies into tools that he can use to give back. Students can testify that campus events are even better when Greg is providing pulled pork with his famous Stauffdog Apple Butter BBQ Sauce.
Speaking of admissions, why not apply? If you want to be part of a community of people who are committed to helping you grow intellectually, spiritually, and personally, Great Lakes is the right place for you. I encourage you to have a chat with Greg Stauffer. Ask him about his stories and why he believes in what we do here. We would love to have you.
Admissions is heavily involved with Great Lakes’ campus life. The Admissions Department is one of the on-campus job opportunities for students. Many students work part-time for the department, calling prospective students, hosting visits, and building relationships. Additionally, the Summer Outreach Team program, run by Admissions, selects a handful of students to visit youth camps and conferences throughout Wisconsin, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Michigan, and Pennsylvania. The entire department displays the grand mission of the school in a personal and approachable way. If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to call them at 1-800-YES-GLCC or email them at admissions@glcc.edu.
