Have you changed your mind about college? Your major? Where you want to go? If you want to go at all? Don't worry, this is very common and you have a lot of options.
Maybe you have wanted to be a doctor or engineer since you were little and now you feel led to do something else. This can be hard and confusing after spending so much time dreaming about something else. Often God leads us to our true calling through a winding path that can be unclear at times.
At Great Lakes we hear from many of our students that this happened to them. Sometimes it is because they discovered a degree or occupation that they didn't know existed. Sometimes God puts someone in their life to steer them toward something else. Or sometimes through prayer and meditation God reveals His true plan.
Has a delay or set back caused you to postpone your college plans? A move? An accident or illness? Family obligations?
If you always envisioned yourself attending a college campus right after high school but that isn't going to happen, it's OK. Are you unhappy or want more out of your current career? Thinking of going back to college? Online classes?
See, there are lots of choices and options. We don't want you to get discouraged if your initial plan isn't working out. God always has a plan and sometimes we have to be open to change in order for the plan to unfold.
Dual Enrollment is a program that allows public, private, or homeschooled high school students to enroll in courses at Great Lakes Christian College for credit prior to high school graduation. College credits earned through dual credit may be applied toward high school and college graduation and may be transferred to other colleges or universities.
This is a great option for any high school student, but particularly for those who may have financial difficulty in paying for college. Dual enrollment will put you ahead of your peers and is very cost effective.

Many colleges have work study programs where you can work on or off campus and earn money toward your education. Often times you can complete work that is relevant to your chosen career path to gain invaluable experience too.
Working to save money for college is something that many students do. Often smaller Christian colleges and community colleges allow you to take one or two classes at a time while you are working and saving. It is a slower way to achieve a degree, but may be the perfect solution for your situation. This way, you can still be working toward your education goals while attending to your other obligations.
If you are interested in the skilled trades there are many programs that offer on-the-job training where you get paid to learn the skill or trade. Skilled trades are in high demand right now and have a high earning potential. Skilled trades may be a great option for you if you like doing rather than studying and love working with your hands and creating things. Many companies offer mentor or internship programs as well, where you can learn on the job from a seasoned trades person.
No matter where you are in life, there are always opportunities to learn and grow in your career and your faith. If you would like to talk further with a Great Lakes Christian College Admissions counselor about your options, we'd love to hear from you.
